In a shocking incident in Mumbai on a Saturday evening, an angry IAS officer, Aman Mittal, and his brother Devesh found themselves involved in a physical fight with two Airtel engineers after their newly installed broadband connection malfunctioned. This incident, caught on CCTV, has sparked controversy and led to two registered complaints, yet no arrests have been made as of now.
The trouble began when Airtel representative Bhushan Gujar assigned the task of connecting a router to engineer Amritesh Singh on December 30. After Singh completed the installation and left, complaints of a malfunctioning connection flooded in, prompting the dispatch of another engineer, Sagar Mandhare.
As Gujar explained, "Soon after, they started calling me with complaints of malfunctioning connection." When Mandhare arrived, the situation escalated dramatically. In a fit of rage, Aman and Devesh physically assaulted Mandhare, resulting in injuries and a broken toe. Alarmed by the severity of the situation, Gujar sought intervention from his seniors and rushed to the location with a colleague.
Upon reaching Mittal's residence, Gujar discovered Aman Mittal sitting on top of the Mandhare, physically assaulting him. Attempts to mediate the dispute were met with further violence, with Devesh assaulting Gujar. The situation worsened as the brothers called in reinforcements from the neighbourhood.
In a detailed account, Mandhare conveyed to the police that when he initially visited the Mittal's home to check the router and WiFi connection, everything seemed to be in working order. However, the situation escalated rapidly. "The brothers got annoyed and told Gujar on the phone that I was abusing them. Aman verbally abused Gujar. He sat on my chest and thrashed me," Mandhare said, revealing the extent of the violence by stating, "My back is full of marks."
'They twisted my hands, and Devesh stood on it. They also used pipes and rods to beat me. Bhushan received the same treatment soon after he arrived.'
As tensions increased, the Mittals involved senior IPS officers, leading to a lengthy standoff. Eventually, an FIR was registered against the brothers at Rabale police station. The entire act was captured on CCTV, adding a layer of concrete evidence to the case.
In a surprising turn, the Mittals filed a cross-complaint, claiming that the Airtel representatives had assaulted Aman Mittal first. This conflicting narrative adds complexity to an already complicated situation.
With an FIR in place, investigations are underway at Rabale police station in Navi Mumbai. Both parties have presented contrasting versions of events, leaving the legal teams to solve the truth behind this altercation.
